Unknown person may have accessed some EASA client details

Multnomah County makes patient confidentiality a priority and has policies and procedures to ensure personal information is protected.

On Sept. 16, 2016 a Multnomah County Mental Health and Addictions Services staff member inadvertently allowed an unknown person access to the staff member’s laptop. We discovered this incident on Sept. 16, 2016 and began collecting more information about what happened. This incident occurred because our staff member believed the request for access was from our Information Technology team. The request was actually from an unknown person. The unknown person accessed information of approximately 112 individuals over a brief period of time before the laptop was shut off.

The name, date of birth, medical record / case number, address, medication and diagnosis of the individuals may have been disclosed. No Social Security numbers were disclosed.

Involved clients were notified by mail of the incident at their last known address. If you were an EASA client at any point in 2015 or 2016 and did not receive this notice due to a change of address, or if you want more information, please call the County toll-free at 800-716-9769 or contact Sonja Miller at sonja.g.miller@multco.us.

The Health Department Mental Health and Addictions Services Division sincerely regrets this incident.
