On October 22, 2014, 17 parole/probation officers (PPOs) from the Department of Community Justice (DCJ) Adult Services Division participated in the 12th Annual Family Violence Apprehension SWEEP. They were joined by other public safety partners – 6 victim advocates and 16 officers from Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office and the Portland Police Bureau. This annual event offers an opportunity to bring together our partners to respond to domestic violence.
These efforts resulted in 21 arrest warrants served, almost double the number from last year’s sweep. Andrew Altman, a Community Justice Manager who oversees the Domestic Violence Unit, was proud of the outcome and admitted the dark, stormy day helped their cause.
The annual sweep takes place during Domestic Violence Awareness month and brings attention to the problem of domestic violence throughout the country. DCJ has participated in this event for twelve straight years. The Domestic Violence Unit is the largest DCJ unit. PPOs are specially trained to work with domestic violence offenders as well as victims.
