DCJ’s Domestic Violence Unit participated in the 13th Annual National Family Violence Apprehension Detail on October 21, 2015 as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The detail is a warrant sweep in which law enforcement agencies attempt to serve outstanding warrants related to family crimes. The effort involves great teamwork and coordination. Kim Hirota organized this year’s sweep in which 44 attempts to serve warrants resulted in 11 arrests. Four victims were connected with a victim’s advocate.
Participants included Jessica Harrison, Brie Murphy, Sandi Rorick, Jacob Skokan, Jennifer Brissenden, Marshall Friedman, Tom White, Pat Brasesco, Jim Sandberg, and Diego Cervantes. Advocates from DCJ, Volunteers of America, and the District Attorney’s office included Zara Stevens, Chelsea Penning, Paulette Schmid, and Saron Nehf.
The Domestic Violence Unit is the largest unit within DCJ’s Adult Services Division. Parole/Probation Officers are specially trained to work with domestic violence offenders and victims.
