Board to consider rural Comprehensive Plan and Transportation System Plan on August 25

August 10, 2016

After nearly two years of work, the Board of County Commissioners will take up adoption of a new Multnomah County Comprehensive Plan and Transportation System Plan (TSP) on Thursday, August 25 at 9:30 a.m. The board will hold a public hearing to take testimony about the plans in the boardroom (Room 100) of the Multnomah Building, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland.

The Comprehensive Plan and TSP are the products of extensive input from an appointed Community Advisory Committee that worked on the documents for nearly 18 months. The committee’s primary role was to draft policies on key rural land use topics such as farm and forest lands, agri-tourism, rural centers, environmental protection and natural hazards.  Their work also included transportation policies and prioritizing projects to improve the county’s rural transportation system. The policies contained in the Comprehensive Plan and TSP establish the regulatory framework that will shape the physical development and transportation decisions for rural areas of the county for many years to come.

The new, updated Comprehensive Plan will replace the current plan that is nearly forty years old.  It also incorporates Rural Area Plans for the county’s four rural planning areas that were adopted over the years. The TSP will replace several rural transportation plans that were adopted in conjunction with past Rural Area Plans.

Copies of the two planning documents can be found online at multco.us/compplan along with other information about the plan update process.

Testimony about the plans can be submitted in the following ways:

  • Letters can be sent to: Multnomah County Land Use Planning, Attention: Comprehensive Plan Project, 1600 SE 190th Ave., Portland, OR 97233
