Multnomah County’s future is dependent upon recruiting recent graduates and members of underrepresented communities into its ranks.
Multnomah County has made a commitment to equity, and our College to County program is a testament to that. College to County (C2C) combats disparities in the County by creating pathways that recent graduates and members of underrepresented communities can enter. C2C is entering its 14th year. The program began with 4 interns in 2011 and has grown to 81 interns in 2024.
The College to County Mentorship Program broadens the pool of interested and qualified candidates to include college students from underrepresented communities. The program augments existing recruitment efforts by placing special emphasis on the recruitment, and mentoring of promising college students with substantive work on county projects, systems, and processes. Our internships assists in students’ understanding of the pathways to employment and leadership in various county careers. The College to County Mentorship Program clearly demonstrates management support for diversity, equity, and inclusion in county recruitment and succession planning
