Oregon Governor Kate Brown is now recruiting for a new Commissioner for the Tax Supervising and Conservation Commission.
The new Commissioner will join four other commissioners on the board that oversees the commission. To be eligible to serve, a person must be a citizen of the United States and of Oregon and a resident and registered voter of Multnomah County.
The commissioners are a cohesive and collaborative group that works to influence the budget decisions of Multnomah County local governments and school districts. They do this by reading and analyzing the budget reviews prepared by TSCC staff, developing questions to ask of the local jurisdictions, and then conducting public hearings with the jurisdictions to explore budget and property tax issues.
Created by the legislature in 1919, TSCC has a long history of service to Multnomah County taxpayers, taxing districts, and elected officials as well as local governments and appointed and elected officials statewide. TSCC monitors and reports on the budgets, taxes, and debt of the diverse 42 taxing districts in the county. These include some of the largest local governments in the state (Multnomah County, TriMet, Portland Public Schools, City of Portland, Metro, and the Port of Portland) and some of the smallest.
Serving as a TSCC Commissioner is a unique opportunity for a thoughtful private citizen to influence the budget decisions of local governments. Commissioners are curious, professional citizens acting on behalf of Multnomah County taxpayers. They find the work meaningful and rewarding. The Governor and the commissioners want the commission to reflect the diversity of the community it serves.
