Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) is now seeking applications for membership on the Multnomah County Animal Services Community Advisory Committee (MCAS-CAC).
The purpose of the MCAS-CAC is to focus community voices and values in MCAS’ work to support pets and people in the community and to establish a more equitable relationship between MCAS and the diverse communities in Multnomah County.
The MCAS-CAC helps support our mission by:
- Advising and providing input on MCAS operations and procedures
- Reviewing and making recommendations regarding division policies, budgetary priorities, and service expectations of the community.
- Acting as a liaison between MCAS and the communities we serve by sharing information with community members and raising public knowledge about animal welfare issues and impacted communities
- Giving advice on how to find and maintain a diverse workforce

We look for applicants who have personal, professional, and/or lived experience with historically marginalized communities typically underrepresented in decision-making, and who have a sincere interest in public service and community involvement. All eligible candidates are encouraged to apply.
Requirements for Membership
- Reside within Multnomah County
- 18 years or older
- Awareness of and mindfulness to animal related issues in the community
- Commitment to collaborative and inclusive committee involvement
- Willing and able to serve a three (3) year term
- Meetings are typically held once every 3 months on Monday evenings between 6-8pm, but ad hoc meetings may be held as necessary.
- MCAS Employees are not eligible to apply
Application Timeframe
New applications will be accepted from Tuesday, February 18, 2020 through Monday, March 23, 2020. After review, all applicants will be contacted about next steps by mid-May 2020.

MCAS is the only open admission animal shelter serving all of the jurisdictions within Multnomah County, including: the cities of Portland, Gresham, Troutdale, Fairview, Wood Village, and all unincorporated areas. MCAS is responsible for enforcing Multnomah County Code Chapter 13 – Animal Control.
