Law enforcement agencies including the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Portland Police, and Gresham Police not only respond to incidents, but work with the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, its specialized units and Multnomah County’s Department of Community Justice to build relationships with community members and proactively deter violence.
Specialized law enforcement units such as:
- Multnomah County District Attorney's Office Strategic Prosecution Unit (SPU): reviews case patterns and data to identify where repeated criminal activity is disproportionately affecting community safety, allowing specialized prosecutors to address local safety concerns through coordinated, community-informed interventions. SPU partners with law enforcement, businesses, community-based organizations and others to work directly with those most impacted by criminal activity.
- Enhanced Community Safety Team (Portland): This team focuses on disrupting broad shooting trends and works full time on shooting investigations. The team regularly collaborates with Multnomah County DA’s Office, US Attorney’s Office, Multnomah County Parole and Probation, the City of Portland’s Office of Violence Prevention and the FBI, among others.
- Portland Police Focused Intervention Team (FIT) (Portland): The team of sergeants and officers respond to shootings on a regular basis and work proactively to reduce gun violence.
