County Board voted to declare the Gresham Library as surplus

On October 17, The Multnomah County Library District Board voted to declare Gresham Library as surplus, beginning the process to dispose of (sell) the property. The Library is replacing this building with a new larger library building, the future East County Library, at NW Eastman Parkway and NW Division in Gresham. The new library is part of the Library Capital Bond program approved by voters in 2020.

Approval of the resolution to declare the building as surplus kicked off a 21-day public comment period. This process is designed to provide public input for Multnomah County commissioners to consider before disposing of the property.

Gresham Library: Located at 385 NW Miller Ave, Gresham, the building was built in 1989. It has a gross building area of 19,800 square feet and occupies a 0.99 acre parcel. The parking lot associated with the building is not owned by the library and is not part of this sale.

County Resolution 2018-005, adopted in January 2018, describes the property disposition process.

The public was able to submit comments on the disposition for 21 days, beginning October 17, through November 7, 2024.

If the Gresham Library building is sold before the completion of the new East County Library building, the County will negotiate a lease with the new owner so that Library operations can continue at Gresham Library until services are relocated to the new East County Library building.

The Hansen Building and surrounding property was declared surplus by Resolution No. 04-169 dated November 18, 2004. The property is being studied to clarify its future use to the County.
