PLEASE NOTE: This release has been updated after the contractor working on the Hawthorne Bridge project alerted the County late this afternoon about a change in the work plan shared with the County this morning. The previous work plan said eastbound closures would start tonight.
TRAFFIC ALERT: Tonight, on Wednesday, Aug. 7 till Aug. 9, starting at 2 p.m., all westbound lanes on the Hawthorne Bridge will close for bridge repairs. All vehicular westbound lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning.
Westbound cyclists will be detoured to use the Morrison Bridge and pedestrians will be detoured to use the south sidewalk during this work. The pedestrian and cyclist detours will be in place at all times through Aug. 9.
Starting next week, eastbound lanes will close from 7 p.m. and reopen at 11 a.m. This will be a recurring closure Monday through Friday and will last until approximately Aug. 30.
All lanes and sidewalks will be reopened for the Providence Bridge Pedal, starting Saturday, Aug. 10, through Sunday, Aug. 11.
