Multnomah County launches shuttles to provide rural communities with easier access to shopping destinations

This spring, Multnomah County is launching free rural shopping shuttles to help residents in Corbett and Sauvie Island reach nearby communities for shopping and other needs. These shuttles will run in partnership with Ride Connection, serving both communities twice per month.

Throughout the last year, County staff conducted extensive outreach in Corbett and Sauvie Island, asking residents for feedback on suggested stops. Based on that feedback, the County developed specific routes to provide residents with connections to a variety of destinations.

“We believe transit connections support rural communities by enhancing residents’ independence and quality of life and by contributing to safety on our roads,” Multnomah County Program Manager Eve Nilenders said.

These new shuttles are in addition to the free dial-a-ride service already offered in rural Multnomah County, which continues to provide weekday connections to rural residents.

The service is funded by the Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund (STIF). A full list of Multnomah County’s STIF-funded transit programs can be found at multco.us/transit
