Multnomah County, Ore. (Sept. 1, 2026) — Multnomah County’s Stark Street Bridge Replacement Project survey is now live. We want to hear from you! The County is asking for community feedback on the draft recommended design option for a new bridge.
The survey will be open through Oct. 19, 2026, with a Spanish-language version expected to go live in September.
Based on feedback from the community and key findings from a historic baseline review of the existing bridge, the County is recommending the construction of a new seismically resilient bridge immediately adjacent to the existing bridge. The existing bridge could remain open to people walking or biking.
Background
Multnomah County is leading an effort to replace the Stark Street Bridge. The current crossing over the Sandy River serves as a critical connection for East County residents and provides access to the scenic Columbia River Gorge. It’s more than 110 years old and at the end of its service life. This project will evaluate options for a new bridge.
This project is currently in the Environmental Review Phase. By early 2027, the County anticipates finalizing the recommended design option.
Design and construction of the bridge is contingent upon funding and is several years away. The County is actively pursuing funding opportunities to move this project forward.
