DCJ Employee Recognized as Multnomah County Sustainability Champion

The Office of Sustainability presented at the October 11, 2012 Board of Commissioners meeting to celebrate the Proclamation of Reuse Week (10/14 – 10/20). Their presentation honored the sustainability efforts of the county and our community partners (including the Community Warehouse, Free Geek, SCRAP, Schoolhouse Supplies, The ReBuilding Center and the Habitat for Humanity ReStore).

As a part of this year’s ReUse Week celebration, John Wasiutynski, the county's Resource Conservation Coordinator, named Karen Rhein as one of Multnomah County's Reuse Champions. Karen Rhein has worked for the county over 20 years and currently serves as an Operations Analyst for the Department of Community Justice (DCJ). Karen was recognized for her efforts to ensure that furniture and other items no longer in use by DCJ offices were donated to our community partner agencies. Karen’s sustainability efforts helped make these materials available to community members, supported our community partners in serving the citizens of Multnomah County and kept valuable materials out of landfills.
