Picking the right Medicare plan is individualized and we can make sure you pick a plan that meets your health needs.

We’re trained and offer free, unbiased assistance with Medicare issues.

Trained SHIBA volunteers can help Medicare beneficiaries:

  • Find out if they’re eligible for benefits they are not receiving
  • Compare insurance policies
  • File claims
  • Make appeals and complaints when necessary
  • Make referrals to federal, state and county offices
  • Identify potential insurance violations.

SHIBA offers one-on-one Medicare counseling. For more information please call the Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) at 503.988.3646 or email adrc@multco.us.

Making changes to your coverage after January 1

Between January 1-March 31, if you’re in a Medicare Advantage (MA) Plan (like an HMO or PPO), you can leave your plan and switch to another MA Plan or return to Original Medicare only with or without drug coverage (Part D). If you return to Original Medicare, you’ll have until March 31 to also join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan to add drug coverage. Your coverage will begin the first day of the month after the plan gets your enrollment form. You may be able to make other changes if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

Call the Multnomah County SHIBA office to make an appointment and get information about your plan options.
