August 23, 2023
Starting Wednesday, August 23 around 1 p.m. expect traffic delays for more frequent lifts on the Hawthorne Bridge. Crews will need to open the bridge more frequently to begin greasing work on the bridge’s counterweight cables. The work will last roughly two hours. The bridge openings will last between 15-20 minutes. Use alternative routes. Greasing work continues Thursday, August 24 at 9 a.m. Expect longer bridge lifts until noon that day. This work is part of regular maintenance for the bridge that continues Sunday, August 27 when the Hawthorne Bridge will be closed to all motorized vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. That previous release is here. Multnomah County maintains the Hawthorne, Morrison, Burnside, Broadway, Sellwood and Sauvie Island bridges on the Willamette River. For information, visit: https://www.multco.us/bridges.
