Multnomah County Transportation is releasing a special video series designed to give the community an inside look of the six Willamette River bridges the County maintains, through the eyes of those who work on them every day. Watch the full series here!

Bridge maintenance specialists take you underneath the Burnside Bridge deck to see the inner workings of its mechanical machinery. Take a look inside the Sellwood Bridge arches and hear from engineers about the unique challenges working on the Sellwood and Wapato bridge replacements. The community will also get to see how crews worked to paint the Morrison Bridge, on an extensive safety platform hundreds of feet in the air.

It takes a lot of work to keep County bridges safe and usable. This video series provides a window into that frequent and important maintenance, taking the community to areas on County bridges that most don’t get to see.

“A bridge is a great big piece of machinery,” Multnomah County Bridge Maintenance Specialist, Mindy Bishop said. “You have to maintain your machinery just like a car. If you don’t put the oil in it’s not going to go anywhere.”

Multnomah County maintains five Willamette River bridges: the Sellwood, Hawthorne, Morrison, Burnside and Broadway Bridges as well as the Wapato Bridge over the Multnomah Channel. For information, visit https://www.multco.us/bridges.
