Willamette River Bridge Video Series

Multnomah County is releasing a special video series designed to give an inside look of the six Willamette River bridges the County maintains, through the eyes of those who work on them every day.

Hawthorne Bridge

In this video, you'll hear from Bridge Operator Gary Rivera, Bridge Operations Manager Jill Wolf, Bridge Maintenance Specialist Michael Faulkner and Bridge Maintenance Specialist Mindy Bishop. You'll get a look at the regular maintenance that needs to be done on the counterweight cables and other components to keep the bridge running and able to open for river traffic.


Broadway Bridge

In this video you'll hear from Bridge Operations Coordinator Aysha Ghazoul and Bridge Maintenance Specialist Mindy Bishop. You'll get a look at the machinery room, what lifts the bridge and hear the step-by-step process to lift this bridge that has unique components on it, like the Streetcar rail.


Burnside Bridge

In this video you'll hear from Bridge Maintenance Specialist Michael Faulkner and Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge Project Manager Megan Neill. You'll get a look underneath the Burnside to see the counterweight that moves the bridge when it opens and hear about the unique aspects of performing maintenance on this bridge. You'll also hear about the County's plans to replace the current bridge.


Morrison Bridge

In this video, you'll hear from Engineering Technician Matt Studer. He'll give an inside look of the extensive safety platform crews worked on to recently paint the Morrison Bridge. He'll also talk about the intricate process to paint the bridge, which involves using a large industrial vacuum to prevent paint from falling into the river.


Sellwood Bridge

In this video, you'll hear from Engineering Services Manager Emily Miletich and Bridge Maintenance Specialist Mindy Bishop. You'll hear about the unique challenges while building the new Sellwood Bridge and you'll get a look inside one of the arches and see archival footage of the project.


Wapato Bridge

In this video, you'll hear from Transportation Division Director Jon Henrichsen. He'll talk about the challenges throughout the process of building the Wapato Bridge replacement and you'll see archival footage of the current arch floating down the river on a barge on installment day.
