Chair Cogen learns how to operate county's Hawthorne Bridge in 'Know Multnomah County' video

October 12, 2012

As part of Multnomah County's ongoing mission to spread the word about the services we provide each day to our 735,000 residents, we're launching a new series called "Know Multnomah County."

In this first episode, follow Chair Jeff Cogen as he lifts and lowers the Hawthorne Bridge with assistance from bridge operator Gary Rivera.

As the oldest bridge in Multnomah County, the 1,383-foot long Hawthorne Bridge is one of Portland's busiest bridges, safely carrying about 30,000 vehicles plus untold thousands of pedestrians and cyclists across the Willamette River each day.
