It's Time to Reform our Deflection Program
After a year of operating, it is clear Multnomah County’s deflection program needs significant reform. We provide very limited and severely fragmented services that do not meet community needs.
I have developed a series of proposals to begin to fix our deflection program. Below is a memo I sent to my fellow Multnomah County Commissioners that outlines how we can and should improve our deflection system. I propose a series of changes we can rapidly enact now and lay out a framework for longer-term projects to address budget and policy shortfalls in our current program. These changes work to expand our service capacity and streamline our deflection operations by following best practices and centralizing services we provide.
January 14 I will be hosting a town hall to discuss Multnomah County's deflection program and my proposed reforms, and to listen to your thoughts on these items.
