Health

Commissioner Singleton's approach to health, healthcare, and wellness.

Access to healthcare continues to be a priority. In my approach, healthcare will be thought about holistically. In a time where we are seeing a disinvestment from the federal administration regarding health, public health, and behavioral health it is imperative that the County departments work together to provide wrap-around support, share information when possible to make sure we are not missing connections or duplicating efforts. We have to be resourceful in delivering services.

Medicare/Medicaid

  • The County needs to bill where possible. Currently the County has several programs that, in FY26, I worked with colleagues to reform areas where we could be billing Medicare/Medicaid and we had not been doing so. We cannot afford to leave money on the table when we see cuts coming from the federal government.

Service connection across departments

  • This work reflects my efforts to have better and more effective case management. Someone going through several county programs should not have over 5 different case managers. This is overly burdensome on the person seeking services. If someone is engaging with the County, it should be up to County employees to communicate with each other, not up to the individual to communicate to all of these different County departments.
