Renewals
Today, most OHP members can stay covered for two years without renewing. Starting in late 2027, new federal rules will require many adults to renew their coverage every six months. Others will need to renew once per year.
Work Rules
Starting January 1, 2027, new federal rules will require many OHP and Healthier Oregon members to show proof of work, school, volunteer activities, or get an approved exemption. If you are required to meet SNAP activity rules, you DO NOT need to meet OHP work or activity rules. Meeting SNAP rules counts for both programs.
Cover Transitions For People With Certain Immigration Statuses
Starting October 1, 2026, people with immigration statuses, including asylee or refugee status, humanitarian parolees, and survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, will move to the Healthier Oregon plan. Under Healthier Oregon, members will keep their full benefits and coverage. (Please note: Healthier Oregon members will shift from “enrollment with a CCO” to “Open Card” on January 1, 2027. Open Card has the same OHP benefits, but the network of health care providers may be different. This does not mean that people must pay for care.)
What you can do:
- Prevent gaps in coverage by ensuring Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) has your current contact information. You can contact ODHS through your ONE Online account, by phone by calling 800-699-9075 or in-person at your local ODHS benefits office.
- Find an OHP assister who can help at oregonhealthcare.gov/gethelp

SNAP Work Rules
The new federal budget bill (H.R. 1) expanded the ages of those who need to follow ABAWD (Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents) Work Rules. If you are 18–64 years old without a child under 14 and don’t have an exemption, you must complete 80 hours a month of work activities. Otherwise, you will lose SNAP benefits after three months.
If you have an exemption, you don't have to meet the work rules—but you must notify ODHS. The SNAP Work Rules web page has more information about who qualifies for an exemption and how to request one.
SNAP Interviews
As of June 1, 2026, interviews are required for all Oregon households when renewing SNAP benefits. This may be the first time some households have had to complete a live interview upon renewal. Visit this page to learn more about what you can expect for your SNAP interview.
What you can do:
- Prevent gaps in coverage by ensuring Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) has your current contact information. You can contact ODHS through your ONE Online account, by phone by calling 800-699-9075 or in-person at your local ODHS benefits office.
- Watch and quickly respond to mail from ODHS about your interview.
Public Charge
The federal Public Charge policy is changing. If you are considering applying for a green card, the new policy allows immigration officials to consider any income-based public benefits programs you are using, as of September 18, 2026. To learn more about the Public Charge, read the Protecting Immigrant Families Public Charge Fact Sheet.
If you are unsure how this affects your family, Legal Aid organizations can help. Call the Oregon Public Benefits Hotline at 800-520-5292 (Monday through Thursday) to discuss your situation.
