Public Service Announcement: May 15 Primary Election

The May 15 Primary Election is right around the corner. Be aware: to vote for governor, Congress and the Oregon Legislature, you need to be registered with a major party by April 24, 2018

The May 15 Primary Election is right around the corner.

There are nonpartisan state and local races and local measures that don’t require you to register with a party. And, those contests will appear on everyone’s ballot. However, if you wish to vote in a major party’s closed primary, you must be registered with that party by April 24, or you cannot vote in partisan races for U.S. Representative, Governor, State Senator and Representative.  It’s easy to check your registration, just visit: oregonvotes.gov/myballot

Oregon's voter registration process at DMV makes registering easier than ever before, but it isn't instantaneous. Anyone who visits the DMV after April 3 must return a paper form to get registered by the April 24 deadline.

This year the Independent Party of Oregon has chosen to open its primary election to voters who are not members of any party.
