Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities

We are committed to reducing ethnic and racial disparities in juvenile justice, both increasing resources for at-risk youth and ceasing disparities in their treatment.

Multnomah County Juvenile Services are committed to reducing ethnic and racial disparities in juvenile justice, both increasing resources for at-risk youth and ceasing disparities in their treatment within the justice system.

Our programs and partners aimed at reducing youth violence and justice-involvement include:

Community Healing Initiative (CHI)

  • This community-centered, collaborative partnership between DCJ, Latino Network, and Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center (POIC) is designed to decrease youth violence by providing culturally appropriate community support to youth and families.

Reclaiming Futures

  • Reclaiming Futures uses a team-based model to assist teenagers with substance abuse issues. Judges, probation officers, treatment professionals, community members and families work together on behalf of young people.
  • The program delivers coordinated services that improve access to drug and alcohol treatment and helps justice-involved young people find jobs and volunteer work.

Irco

  • Irco's Youth Programs help students overcome the obstacles that perpetuate inequality and poverty, including mentoring, tutoring, academic advocacy and after school activities, gang prevention and intervention for at-risk youth.
