Requesting an Amendment to Your Marriage Record

If you discover an error in a marriage document that is already recorded with us, here are steps to have your document amended.

Marriage records are a snapshot in time and we can not amend information that was accurate at the time of the marriage, nor can we amend a choice, such as the name taken after marriage.

For a gender change you will need to supply a corrected birth certificate.  For a change to the name taken after marriage, that is not amendable, you will need to file a request for change of name with the court in the county where you currently reside.

In order to amend a record, we must view a copy of a document, that predates the marriagethat supports the changes requested. If you are trying to amend an older marriage record for a parent or grandparent who is no longer living, you will also need to provide proof of relationship that verifies you are authorized to make the change. We can only amend data one time, once amended it can not be amended again.
