Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Duties for the County Auditor are outlined in the Multnomah County Home Rule Charter: Chapter 4.30 Compensation and Chapter 8.10 Auditor:
  • Conduct performance audits of all County operations and financial affairs
  • Direct the county ombudsperson as an impartial resource authorized to receive and investigate complaints and make related reports about county administrative actions.
  • Distribute finalized reports to the board of commissioners
  • Conduct studies to measure and improve the performance of county efforts and activities.
  • Make recommendations for government improvement.
  • Appoint a salary commission to set salaries for the County Chair, Board of Commissioners, Sheriff and county paid supplemental salary of the District Attorney.
  • Develop a plan to apportion commissioner districts every 10 years.
  • Per the County Code, section 25.910 through 25.940, the Auditor consents to operate the Good Government Hotline, including conducting investigations into suspected fraud, waste, inefficiency, and abuse of position in county government.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

County Auditor

The County Auditor is a position that is elected for a four (4) year term.

General qualifications and terms of office for county officers are outlined in Multnomah County Home Rule Charter Chapter 4.10 Qualifications and 4.20 Terms of Office.

A candidate for auditor shall be a certified public accountant or certified internal auditor as of the date of filing for office as outlined in Multnomah County Home Charter Chapter 8.10 Auditor.
