Job description

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Perform dental and oral surgical services; examine, diagnose and treat abnormalities, injuries, dysfunctional disorders, infections, and diseases of the oral cavity and associated structures; perform preventative, periodontal, oral surgery, endodontic and prosthodontic treatment; provide triage and treatment of patients requiring emergency dental care; treat post-operative complications; make referrals to other medical providers as necessary.
  • Interpret radiographs and diagnostic tests to determine type and extent of dental diseases and disorders; review and evaluate medical histories; prescribe medication; administer anesthesia; determine limits of insurance coverage and discuss options for treatment in the absence of a specialty dentist.
  • Oversee and manage strict asepsis controls to prevent transmission of communicable diseases; maintain strict control over the dispensing and use of toxic materials.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of activities of assigned clinic; plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of a diverse workforce and students; develop and revise work processes; establish work schedules; provide or coordinate staff training; manage performance and work with staff to correct deficiencies; monitor work performed to meet agreed upon goals and objectives.
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; recommend and implement policies and procedures; prepare various reports on operations and activities.
  • Provide education and instruction in the prevention and control of oral health to encourage patient well-being; review patient oral habits, diet, and nutrition; provide counseling and demonstration of oral disease control methods.
  • Analyze and review policies and procedures in order to ensure compliance; conduct analysis on best practices and trends, and formulate and implement recommendations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Receive administrative direction from management.
  • Exercise direct supervision over staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.
 

Dentist (On Call)
Training and experience for advanced level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and three (3) to six (6) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 7-10 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
 
Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.


REQUIRED TRAINING, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • License required to practice dentistry as outlined by Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) 679.060.
  • Registration required to deliver or dispense controlled substances as outlined by Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) 475.125.
  • Nitrous Oxide Permit issued by the Oregon Board of Dentistry required.
  • CPR certification required.
