EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Assist with providing behavior observation and assessment of individual detainees and groups; prepare reports, behavior summations, and verbal and written evaluations of youth for unit logs, individual detainee files, and for the counselors and/or court.
- Assist in admitting youth into the facility and with preliminary hearings; assist in removing personal belongings, supervise, and control youth before screening; maintain proper security in the area; assist with comprehensive searches for contraband and other potential safety hazards.
- Assist with providing guidance and skill-building experiences to individuals and groups of detainees through group counseling, anger management, socialization skills, and employment skills; assist with providing basic guidance and social counseling to clients as needed.
- Assist with screening for medical problems and arrange for medical attention; administer general first aid.
- Assist with transporting clients to various locations, sometimes using restraints; may provide security at hearings.
- Assist in the reception of new youth, obtain personal history for records, and assign new residents to quarters; assist with supervising and inform youth in housekeeping activities, house rules, and personal hygiene; deliver and assist in the preparation of meals to individual units.

- This job profile is used for the JCSS Training Program and upon successful completion, incumbents are promoted into the Juvenile Custody Services Specialist.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Training and experience for this entry level, technical classification is equivalent to an associate's degree. (Equivalency 2 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
