This is a standalone job profile and is not part of a series. Positions in this job profile perform intake, inventory, storage and disposal of a variety of public safety contraband, evidence and confiscated property.
Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Inventory incoming property, evidence and contraband; classify, sort and separate into categories for appropriate storage, disposal or destruction; transport evidence into secure storage; assist officers with seizing property and loading evidence at arrest sites; research special items and storage needs; prepare case file reports.
  • Follow chain of custody guidelines; sign in and out items with proper authorization; arrange for viewing and identification of property by the public; return items to owners after verifying ownership; notify other agencies regarding recovered property; testify in court; work with inspection on audits including verifying property locations, amounts of money or contents of evidence.
  • Coordinate and perform day-to-day unit functions to assure smooth logistics services, operations, communications and security duties; assist in scheduling outside work and provide coordination on the scene; assist in supervision of subcontractors.
  • Perform data entry; review information and forms for accuracy and completeness; recommend changes and assist management in revising operating procedures, rules and regulations; develop and revise systems, forms, report formats and preparation procedures; compose correspondence such as project plans, memorandums, recalls and hazard reports.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, department and unit guidelines and procedures regarding evidence room, fleet service and procurement, uniform standards and pricing, safety, security, confidentiality, documentation and other matters; answer questions and explain department policies to officers and other county departments and suppliers.
  • Perform general facilities, equipment, warehousing and other specialty duties such as routine maintenance, equipment testing, ordering, stocking and receiving orders; maintain contact with vendors to ensure timely receipt of supplies; consult on vehicle needs; order parts, keys, gas cards and other supplies; coordinate vehicle preventative maintenance, minor repairs and installations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Logistics Evidence Technician

Training and experience for journey level, technical classifications are typically equivalent to an associate's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 3-6 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
