This is a standalone job profile and is not part of a series. Positions in this job profile fabricate, repair, and replace a wide variety of signs, marker posts, guardrails, and traffic control devices in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Job description

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Operate a variety of hand tools, design programs, and lettering equipment to design, layout, and fabricate signage for traffic signs, street signs, pavement markings, public information signs, building signs, and other county marking needs.
  • Fabricate, cut, route, engrave, shape, trim, and finish signs on a large variety of substrates, such as silk screens, vinyl lettering logos, vehicle markings, window lettering, wood, reflective sheeting, metal, laminate, plastics, vehicles, and banners.
  • Fabricate traffic control signs to meet county, state, and federal standards, such as the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); produce raised letter and braille signs which conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
  • Maintain and care for all equipment and materials; retain appropriate documentation of assignments.
  • Assist customers with designs to meet their needs; provide price estimates and bill out orders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Work is reviewed based on compliance, appropriateness, and effectiveness in meeting goals and deadlines.
  • Receive general supervision from manager or staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.
 

Sign Fabricator
Training and experience for journey level, trades classifications are typically equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 1-4 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
 
Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
