Welcoming and Supporting Veterans

At Multnomah County, we know veterans share our commitment to serving others, and we welcome transitioning service members, veterans and reserve members into our ranks.

These are just a few of the ways we support veterans and service members who work with us:

Veterans Employee Resource Group: Our veterans employee resource group was formed to identify challenges and facilitate continued growth for employees with military backgrounds or family connections to the military, and to provide a voice for the growing population of veterans and veterans’ family members within Multnomah County’s diverse workforce. This group is open to employees who have served in the United States armed forces, their spouses and other family members, and anyone who supports the mission of the group.

Military Leave Donation Program: Through this program, Multnomah County employees can donate vacation leave or compensatory time to fellow employees who are on active military leave without pay. These donations are intended to help make up the difference between the recipient’s military gross pay and his or her regular base pay with the county for up to six months.

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office: The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office counts many veterans among their employees and they support their military colleagues through a number of focused support programs. The Sheriff’s Office allows deputies to reschedule shifts they need to miss for military training if they want to remain in paid status without using vacation time. The Sheriff’s Office also provides a liaison to support families of deployed employees, if desired, by answering questions and acting as a point of contact for the family during deployment.
