Get ready for the Nov. 5 General Election.
This year’s General Election includes local contests for Portland Mayor, Portland City Council, the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners, federal contests including the President of the United States and U.S. House of Representatives, and state contests including Oregon Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Attorney General, and state legislative seats. Voters will also decide on statewide and local ballot measures.
Ballots will be mailed to all registered Multnomah County voters beginning Wednesday, Oct. 16!
It is important to make sure you are registered to vote and that you keep your registration up to date so that you can receive your ballot as soon as possible.
Prepare now for the Nov. 5 General Election by making a plan to vote, and by joining the community in celebrating National Voter Registration Day with Multnomah County Elections on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Let’s Make a Plan to VOTE!
In advance of the Nov. 5 Election Day deadline, Multnomah County Elections is asking voters to Make a Plan to VOTE! The action-focused checklist walks voters through the five steps needed to ensure their vote is counted:
- Register to VOTE.
- Get your ballot.
- VOTE your ballot.
- Return your ballot.
- Have a VOICE and make a difference.
First: Register to VOTE. Voter Registration Deadline is Oct. 15, 2024.
The voter registration deadline for this election is Tuesday, Oct. 15. Register to vote online at oregonvotes.gov/register.
Make sure to update your voter registration anytime you move, change your name, or want to change your party affiliation. Now is the time to check that your voter registration has your current residence and mailing address.
Then, sign up for Track Your Ballot after you check your registration!
Get your ballot.
You will receive your ballot in the mail beginning Oct. 16. If you have not received your ballot by Oct. 24, take action by calling Multnomah County Elections at 503-988-VOTE (8683) for a replacement ballot. If you are going to be away from home for this election you can sign up to vote absentee, or vote early, starting Sept. 23.
VOTE your ballot.
Remember to sign your ballot return envelope. Your signature is your identification.
Every signature on every ballot is examined to make sure it matches the signature in the voter’s registration. If you forget to sign or your signature does not match, we will send you a letter and contact you via Track Your Ballot so that you can take action and we can count your vote.

Return your ballot.
You have two choices in returning your ballot. Vote early and return your ballot by mail. No stamp needed! Ballots must be postmarked by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 5, and arrive within seven days of Election Day, to be counted.
You can also return your ballot to an Official Ballot Drop Site. Return your ballot to any 24-hour Official Ballot Drop Box in the state or to any 24-hour Multnomah County Library Drop Site. All Multnomah County Official Ballot Drop Sites are listed at multco.us/dropsites. Ballots must be dropped off by 8 p.m. on Election Night, Nov. 5.

Now that you are ready to vote, help your community get ready by celebrating National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 17. First celebrated in 2012, National Voter Registration Day has become a nonpartisan national holiday when thousands of organizations and volunteers organize to ensure that our family, friends, and neighbors Make a Plan to VOTE! The first step in the plan is registering to vote!
Get Involved!
- Make sure your family, friends, and neighbors Make a Plan to VOTE! and are registered to vote at their current address.
- Access our Make a Plan to VOTE! Virtual Voter Registration Kit with rules for organizing a voter registration drive, printable voter registration cards, signs, and brochures.
- Connect with a local, governmental, or community organization to be part of a National Voter Registration Day event. Events will be added to our social media channels as we near the date (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter)

Do you want to know when your ballot has been mailed out? Sign up for Track Your Ballot and receive a virtual “I Voted” sticker.
Text, email, or voice alerts will tell you when Multnomah County Elections has mailed your ballot, and then, once you’ve returned your ballot, when we have received it.
Alerts also indicate whether the ballot has been accepted for counting or whether it requires further action by the voter.
Inside the “Accepted Ballot” message, voters will get access to a special Oregon “I Voted” sticker ready to share on social media. Multnomah County voters can sign up by visiting multnomah.ballottrax.net.
