Portland, OR -- Volunteering is good for the community. Now research shows that it is also good for the brain and one of the ways you can help your brain age well.
Learn the important steps you can take to protect brain health at the Aging Well Conference in Portland on Oct. 3. The free half-day conference will give participants many ways to thrive in this community at every age.
The conference is from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at OHSU’s Collaborative Life Sciences Building on 2730 S.W. Moody Ave., Portland – off the new Orange Max line – in honor of Active Aging Week.
Basia Belza, University of Washington nursing professor and developer of a mall-walking program for older adults will deliver the keynote presentation on maintaining physical fitness.
Those attending will also hear how to find critical resources for yourself or a loved one; how to cook delicious meals on a budget with a live demonstration from Portland Farmer’s Market, demystify financial planning for peace of mind, and gain practical and affordable tips to help you age in your home.
The event is being planned by Multnomah County Aging, Disability and Veterans Services Division, AARP, Oregon Health Sciences University, PSU’s Institute on Aging, Elders in Action, and National Hartford Centers of Gerontological Nursing Excellence.
The event is free. Refreshments will be provided. And in a highlight for all, the conference will end with a guided walk across the new iconic Tilikum Crossing Bridge.
Registration is available at http://bit.ly/AgeWell2015 and on a limited basis at the door.
