Broadway Bridge to reopen to all traffic this Sunday

TRAFFIC ALERT: On Sunday April 12, the Broadway Bridge will reopen to all motorized vehicles, the Portland Streetcar, cyclists and pedestrians. The bridge closed October 13, 2025 to all motorized vehicles and the Portland Streetcar for six months to replace the bridge deck. The south sidewalk remained open throughout the majority of the closure.

***ADDITIONAL SHORT TERM CLOSURE***

While the new deck will be installed and ready for motorized vehicles to return to using the bridge on Sunday, April 12, there is additional work for this project that will require an upcoming weekend closure. On Saturday, April 18, beginning at 5:00 a.m. the Broadway Bridge will be closed to all motorized vehicles and the Portland Streetcar through Sunday, April 19, at 11:30 p.m. Crews will be installing final steel materials used to balance the bridge. The south sidewalk will remain open to cyclists and pedestrians during this work.

Background

The bridge deck is the surface you drive on, of the movable section of the bridge. In order to do the work, the contractor removed small sections of the bridge deck, one at a time, to ensure that the movable bridge sections remained carefully balanced and could be opened to river traffic as required by law. New streetcar tracks were also installed in the section of the bridge deck being replaced. For project information, visit: https://multco.us/info/broadway-bridge-lift-deck-replacement.

Multnomah County maintains five Willamette River bridges: the Sellwood, Hawthorne, Morrison, Burnside and Broadway Bridges as well as the Wapato Bridge over the Multnomah Channel. For information, visit https://www.multco.us/bridges.
