Hawthorne, Morrison bridges to close for July 4 fireworks show

The Hawthorne Bridge and the Morrison Bridge will close to motorized vehicles Saturday, July 4 for the Waterfront Blues Festival fireworks show.

Morrison Bridge

The Morrison Bridge will close to cars and trucks from 8:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. Drivers will need to use alternative routes. The bridges will remain open for cyclists and pedestrians. These closures are not weather dependent. Multnomah County is closing the bridges during this time because crowds often fill the bridges and cars stop to watch the fireworks. This can cause safety issues.

Hawthorne Bridge

The Hawthorne Bridge will close to cars and trucks Saturday, July 4 at 3:00 a.m. for setup related to the Waterfront Blues Festival’s Dinner on the Bridge event. The east portion of the bridge will be sectioned off for this event. All traffic lanes and the south sidewalk will be closed for setup, during the event and teardown. For questions about the event, contact: Fuller Events.

During the fireworks show, the public is welcome to watch the fireworks from the west end of the bridge. The north sidewalk will be open to cyclists and pedestrians traveling in both directions. As the bridge gets more crowded, cyclists please walk your bikes.

The bridge will reopen at 5:00 a.m. Sunday, July 5.

Multnomah County maintains five Willamette River bridges: the Sellwood, Hawthorne, Morrison, Burnside and Broadway Bridges as well as the Wapato Bridge over the Multnomah Channel. For information, visit https://www.multco.us/bridges.
