Home for the Holidays: Pet adoption fees match the date in December

Every creature should have a warm place to call home on these cold winter nights. In an effort to find homes for the animals spending this holiday season in our shelter, Multnomah County Animal Services is launching operation Home for the Holidays.

Beginning Dec. 1, adoption fees for all pets 6 months or older will match the date. That means tomorrow, a family can take home a pet for $1. On Dec. 2, the fees will cost just $2. The special will run through Dec. 31, or until all the pets have found homes.

All adoptions include spay/neuter, vaccinations, a health exam, a one-year pet license and a microchip that can be registered for free.

This is the second annual adoption fee-date matching event. Last year families took in nearly 300 pets during the adoption special, about three times the average number adopted each month.

“The ability to place animals in loving homes, is our paramount mission. We want to reduce those barriers,” said Multnomah COunty Animal Services Director Jackie Rose. “It’s a wonderful way to give a pet a forever home and it’s an opportunity to save little money on the adoption fee.”

What should you do with the money you save?

“Go buy your new pet a favorite toy,” Rose suggests.
