Multnomah County Transportation is showcasing a special compilation of Burnside Bridge stories and birthday messages the community shared at the Burnside Bridge Centennial Celebration last month.
On Saturday, May 30, the Burnside Bridge transformed into a massive celebration. There were no cars or trucks passing over the bridge like you’d see on any given day. Instead, thousands of Portlanders were dancing, crafting, learning and building community to celebrate and honor the history of the Burnside Bridge as it turned 100-years-old.
The Burnside Bridge Centennial Celebration was a family-friendly event that melded history and community. During the celebration, there was a dedicated section of the bridge inviting folks to share their Burnside Bridge stories. People could share a short story in front of the camera, write a birthday card note or leave a birthday voicemail – a love letter of sorts, to a crossing that holds immense meaning for our community.
You can watch, listen and read all of the Burnside Bridge stories and birthday messages here.
