PORTLAND — A dog declared dangerous by Multnomah County Animal Services — after a mauling last month and a previous attack — was impounded Saturday, May 6, by an Animal Control Officer.

The dog, a pit bull mix named Bubbie, was taken into custody about 10 a.m. after a patrolling Animal Control Officer found him in Southeast Portland with his owner, Jessie Miller. The Animal Control Officer called Portland Police to execute a warrant allowing Animal Services to impound Bubbie.

Miller has until May 31, 2023, to appeal the Dangerous Dog designation and a notice of suspension of ownership. Both notices were first served to Miller on May 1. Animal Services has the authority to keep Bubbie impounded in its security kennel during any appeal.

After Miller absconded with the dog, Animal Services took steps to impound Bubbie by working with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office this week to obtain a warrant for Bubbie through a judge. The warrant also empowered law enforcement to help impound Bubbie. Animal Services also instituted priority patrols seeking Bubbie around his last known whereabouts.

“I want to express my strong appreciation for the Sheriff’s Office and the Portland Police Bureau for their partnership in this matter, allowing us to respond and ultimately execute this warrant,” said Erin Grahek, director of Multnomah County Animal Services. “And I also want to thank my officers and staff at Animal Services for their dedication. Working together, we were able to keep our community safer.”

The District Attorney’s Office will determine whether Miller faces any potential criminal charges in connection with this case.
