The Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday, June 16, reported it is investigating four possible heat-related deaths.
The first death suspected of being caused by this current heat emergency was that of a 47-year-old man who was witnessed dying on Monday, June 15, in the 97211 ZIP code.
The second death was that of a 64-year-old man found Monday, June 15, in the 97266 ZIP code.
The third death was that of a 70-year-old female found Monday, June 15, in the 97080 ZIP code.
The fourth death was that of an 82-year-old female found Monday, June 15, in the 97201 ZIP code.
No other details are being released or are available at this time.
The deaths are still considered suspected. Investigators say confirmation will not be complete for several weeks to months. Further tests and investigation will determine whether the deaths are officially heat-related. The deaths may end up being attributed to underlying medical conditions or drug overdose.
From 2022 to 2025, there were 16 confirmed heat-related deaths in Multnomah County. Individuals were mostly men, single, older than 60 and had underlying conditions. Nearly 90% were housed at the time of death.
