NEWS RELEASE: Multnomah County Medical Examiner identifies suspected heat-related death

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office on Sunday, Aug. 24, reported it is investigating a possible heat-related death.

The death — the first suspected of being caused by this current heat emergency — was that of a 56-year-old man found Saturday, Aug. 23,  in the 97209 zip code. The zip code includes Old Town Chinatown, the Pearl District and Nob Hill neighborhoods.

No other details are being released or are available at this time.

The death is still considered suspected. Investigators say confirmation will not be complete for several weeks to months. Further tests and investigation will determine whether the deaths are officially heat-related. The deaths may be found to have had other causes.
