NEWS RELEASE: Multnomah County Medical Examiner releases cause of death for decedent in Nippon Dynaware industrial accident

Multnomah County, Ore. (June 11, 2026) — On May 26, 2026, 11 people died in the Nippon Dynawave industrial accident in Longview, WA. One decedent, Dillon Miller, age 27, was transported to a Portland hospital where he later died from his injuries. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner is able to share that Mr. Miller's cause of death has been determined to be due to “sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide burns,” with the manner determined as “accident.”

As a note, Mr. Miller’s cause of death is consistent with the other causes of death listed as alkaline chemical burns, but that terminology varies from office to office. Investigations remain ongoing.

Next-of-kin have been notified; as always, we ask that you please honor their time to grieve during this difficult period.
