NEWS RELEASE: Multnomah County seeking community volunteers to staff warming shelters starting today, Feb. 13

Multnomah County, Ore. (Feb. 13, 2025) — Multnomah County is recruiting community volunteers to serve as general staff at our emergency severe weather shelters starting today, Thursday, Feb. 13.

People who have volunteered before or who have previously participated in one of the County’s 50-plus training and informational sessions are particularly encouraged to apply. The County is also encouraging people with experience in human services and health-related settings to sign up.

But anyone is welcome to fill a shift as the region navigates snow and potential ice storms alongside freezing temperatures.

Interested volunteers should click on one of the shelter locations listed below to sign up for shifts at that location. Volunteers should give extra consideration to taking shifts at a location where they can travel to safely and arrive on-time.

Learn more about roles and responsibilities, and necessary training, at the County’s “Volunteer at a County emergency shelter” website.

Volunteers who have limited time for the required trainings before their first shift, should please prioritize the “Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) Training for Emergency Shelter Workers” training and the Naloxone training

Please continue to check the County’s “Care for When It’s Cold” site for the latest information about shelters and other life-saving work during this emergency activation.
