S.E. Cochran Road to close for several months for bridge repairs

TRAFFIC ALERT: On Monday, June 23, starting at 7:00 a.m., S.E. Cochran Road between N.E. Paloma Avenue and S. Troutdale Road will close for several months for work to rebuild a portion of the road at the Cochran Road Bridge over Beaver Creek. Signs will detour traffic onto S.E. Stark Street. This section of S.E. Cochran Road is expected to be closed until early winter.

This project will remove low-density cellular concrete (LDCC) from the bridge approaches and rebuild the road. LDCC removal will stop high pH discharge into Beaver Creek.

Construction crews will demolish and rebuild the road surface, shoulder, guardrail, storm drains, retaining wall and French drains. Damaged soil will be removed and replaced with clean soils and replanted with trees, shrubs and other native plants.

Background:

In 2019, Multnomah County discovered LDCC had been leaching high pH water into the creek and nearby wetland from a previous project. The County immediately took action to address the concern and stop the material from leaching into the waterways. This project is the final step in remediation.
