Multnomah County’s Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge Project is recruiting for a new Community Design Advisory Group.
As the project wraps up the Environmental Review Phase and heads to final design, this group will help give the project team feedback on bridge aesthetics including:
- Colors
- Materials
- Lighting
- The shape of certain features on the bridge.
The application period is open now through Dec. 4. To apply visit: Burnsidebridge.org
Since the project began in 2016, the County’s had a focus on working with and hearing from the community. Several community groups helped the project team make decisions throughout the Environmental Review Phase.
Right now, there will be no immediately usable bridges in downtown Portland after a major earthquake. Multnomah County is leading an effort to be ready. The Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge Project will replace the current crossing with a bridge that can withstand a major Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake. It will provide a critical lifeline route for first responders to get to those who need help and be a crucial link in helping our community recover.
If you are interested or know someone who might want to help the project team during this next phase, please share the application information!
Selections for the Community Design Advisory Group will be in early January.
