Around 10:30 am on Oct. 19 the Board of County Commissioners will observe a moment of silence for the 28 Oregonians who have died in 2017 due to domestic violence. Please join us and our Domestic & Sexual Violence Coordination Office, wherever you are, in this effort to raise awareness and please share it with those around you.
The moment of silence will proceed a proclamation naming October 2017 as Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month in Multnomah County.
Domestic and sexual violence is a complex and pervasive problem in our community that affects individuals across economic, racial, gender, educational, religious, and societal lines.
Serious domestic and sexual violence affects one in three women and one in four men in their lifetimes. It can have long-term damaging effects on an individual, and on family, friends, and the community at large. In 2016 more than 60 people in Oregon were killed as a result of domestic violence.
An important part of taking action is making sure everyone knows what resources are available in the community.
DCHS' Domestic and Sexual Violence Coordination Office has put together a list of resources to share.
