Lydia joined the Emergency Management Operations Team in May of 2023. She brings a wide variety of experience to the team, spanning international development and emergency response to local disaster preparedness. After working abroad for several years, first in Albania and then in Sri Lanka, Lydia found herself on the front lines of an acute disaster response when the tsunami hit in 2004. Upon returning to the Pacific Northwest, Lydia and her husband recognized the need for disaster awareness locally, and started an earthquake preparedness company that operated prior to the global COVID pandemic.

She worked the Multnomah County COVID-19 response, is a trained mediator, and has served the community in a variety of capacities including Victim’s Advocacy, Neighborhood Emergency Team member, and parent disaster preparedness advocacy.

Lydia graduated from Gonzaga University with a BA in English Literature, minor in Business and played on the women’s basketball team. A native Oregonian, Lydia has lived in Portland with her husband and three kids since 2005. She is deeply invested in creating and being a part of an aware, prepared, and resilient community, and believes Multnomah County’s Emergency Management work is an essential part of that.
