Voters can return their ballots to any 24-hour Official Ballot Drop Site by 8 p.m. Voters can also still mail their ballots — but mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received with seven days of Election Day to count.
Please return your voted ballot to the Official Ballot Drop Site closest to you (Google Map) to reduce congestion at other locations. Ballots are continuously picked up at official drop sites by teams of sworn election officials throughout the day. These sites will close promptly at 8 p.m. tonight.
All 30 of Multnomah County’s Official Ballot Drop Sites, including library locations, are safe and secure. Official Ballot Drop Sites in Multnomah County are listed below and at multco.us/dropsites.
Elections officials thank those who’ve already voted — and they urge anyone who hasn’t returned their ballots yet to make a plan to vote as early as possible today. Voting early means you won’t have to rush or hope life doesn’t get in the way of turning in your ballot on time. Voting early will also help reduce any potential congestion around ballot drop boxes later in the day and allow your ballot to be accepted and counted sooner, too.
Multnomah County Elections open until 8 p.m. for in-person voter services
But no matter when you turn in your ballot, Multnomah County Elections will be open until 8 p.m. and ready to help you — in-person and over the phone — in both Southeast Portland and Gresham.
Voters can still replace lost or damaged ballots. Voters with a disability can receive assistance. Voters who speak a language other than English can receive assistance in their preferred language. Elections staff are available for questions or other elections-related help.
The Multnomah County Duniway-Lovejoy Elections Building is at 1040 S.E. Morrison St. in Southeast Portland. Be aware: Street parking is limited, but the building is near TriMet bus routes 15 and 70.
Elections’ Voting Center Express is inside the Multnomah County East Building at 600 N.E. 8th St. in Gresham. The Voting Center Express is a closer service location for the more than 140,000 Multnomah County voters who live east of Interstate 205. There is free parking and it is near the TriMet Gresham Central Town Center MAX Station. Voters can also call Elections at 503-988-VOTE (8683).
If you do not need in-person assistance, we ask that you drop off voted ballots at an Official Ballot Drop Site rather than one of our two voter service locations. That way staff can focus on quickly serving voters who need additional help or guidance.
Order Ahead Replacement Ballot Service
Save time by using Multnomah County Elections’ Order Ahead Replacement Ballot Service. Voters who need to request a replacement ballot can go online to multco.us/orderahead before they visit a voter service location. Voters can still request replacement ballots for pickup today, Election Day.
Voters can pick up their requested replacement ballots through “will call” service at either the Voting Center Express or at the Multnomah County Duniway-Lovejoy Elections Building (see location information above and below).
It’s also never too late to join more than 144,850 Multnomah County voters by signing up for Elections’ “Track Your Ballot,” service at multnomah.ballottrax.net. Our popular Track Your Ballot service is available in multiple languages! You can choose to receive ballot alerts and updates in English, Spanish, Russian, Somali, Vietnamese, Chinese or Ukrainian.
Elections will let you know when your ballot is mailed to you; when we have received your ballot; when we have verified your signature and accepted your ballot for counting. You'll even receive a virtual "I Voted" sticker that's ready to share on social media.
New dashboard shares information on voter turnout; preliminary election results available shortly after 8 p.m.
Voters can track turnout across the County thanks to a new interactive dashboard launched by Elections this fall. Beyond being able to sort turnout by a particular precinct, jurisdiction or contest, you can track how ballots are being returned and how many have been accepted or challenged.
The dashboard also provides, for the first time, an estimate of total expected turnout. Elections will update the dashboard on Election Day and beyond as returned and/or postmarked ballots are received.
And just like past elections, initial unofficial election results will continue to be posted and available at www.multnomahvotes.gov shortly after 8 p.m.
Even with transition to ranked-choice voting for City of Portland contests, Elections is using the same process used in previous elections to count ballots, albeit with updated software that allows for the tabulation of both single-winner and multi-winner contests.
Elections typically processes and releases results for roughly half of all expected ballots on Election Day.
And by the Thursday after Election Day, that percentage typically climbs to 90%. That means, just like in any election, results will become more clear as more ballots are received.
Elections will provide daily updates on ranked-choice voting results by 6 p.m. in the week immediately following Election Day. Every update will include complete round-by-round tabulations of all of the ballots to date that have been received and counted. No one will wait days, let alone weeks, to see who is leading in preliminary returns. Certification of votes is still scheduled for Dec. 2.
Unlike in past years, when City of Portland election results would also be available at the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office, the only place to see accurate ranked-choice voting results is multnomahvotes.gov.
