Parent Education Class: Helping Your Children Cope with Family Change

What's the Class About? The class has useful information about the impact of divorce/separation on children, co-parenting, conflict resolution, and Oregon law related to separation or divorce. The class is required for anyone who is part of a family law case that decides a child's custody.

Here’s the Parents Helping Children Cope with Family Change (2023) Companion Booklet (6.22 MB) for more information.

When and Where? The class is online through Zoom. We have one or more classes each week, either on Thursdays during the day or evening and on Saturdays in the morning. We also offer a class in Spanish once every other month on a Saturday.

How Much Does it Cost? $70. We have a process to request a reduced fee (Fee Waiver Form). We will let you know within two days if you qualify to have your fees lowered or waived. If your court fees were waived, we will waive the fee for the class. If you applied for a fee waiver, please don’t register for the class online.  We will get you registered once we process your fee waiver, and we don't refund fees.

How do I Sign Up? You can sign up here. If you have any questions or need to take the class in a language other than English or Spanish or need other accommodations, you can email parent.ed@multco.us or call 503-988-3037. We will get back to you within about a day. Rescheduling and Fees: If you need to change the class date, you can do it for free as long as you tell us 24 hours before the class. If you don't show up and don't tell us beforehand, you'll have to pay $70 to reschedule. If you ask to reschedule less than 24 hours before it starts, it'll cost you $25. We don't give refunds for the class fees.

Do I have to take it again if I’ve taken it in the past? If you've ever taken this class before, even if it was for a different case, you probably don't have to take it again unless a judge orders it.  If you’re not sure if you’ve already taken the class, contact us before you register at parent.ed@multco.us or call 503-988-3037, and we will let you know.
