If you’re looking for a meaningful way to serve your community, the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) might be for you.
The MRC is a national network of licensed health care and medical professionals who volunteer to help out during disasters and emergency preparedness activities.
The Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington county MRC units work together to serve our region. Each MRC unit is managed locally.
Who Can Join?
Anyone who has a health or medical license (including alternative care) in good standing.
Your license must be overseen by a state licensing board that conducts at least one criminal background check at the time you were first licensed.
What You'll Do as a Volunteer
There are many ways you can make a difference:
- Community reception centers and shelter operations
- Disease investigation and contact tracing
- Cover shortages at healthcare facilities
- Vaccine clinics
- Mass prophylaxis/vaccine clinics and point-of-dispensing sites
- Emergency call center operations
- Preparedness exercises and events
- Teach “Stop the Bleed,” community CPR and first aid classes
- Outreach to support community preparedness efforts

- To volunteer at the state level, you can also apply for the State Managed Volunteer Pool (SMVP)
Staff will contact you within 10 business days. They’ll set you up in our regional volunteer portal where you can take the training and sign up for events.
New Member Orientation
Once you’ve been confirmed as a volunteer, you’ll have 3 months to complete the following orientation requirements. It takes about 2 hours.
