How to Become a DCJ Volunteer
We are always looking for volunteer support from community members or local organizations looking for pathways to support local families and individuals who are impacted by crime and justice systems, please reach out!
We offer volunteer opportunities to enhance restorative justice programs, both in the community and at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center.
Intake
The first step to becoming a volunteer is to complete an Intake Interview and assessment. At your Intake Interview we will discuss your interest in volunteering, what motivates you, and we will discuss our available volunteer opportunities. If you are approved to volunteer, It typically takes 6 to 10 weeks after the interview before you begin your service.
- To schedule an intake interview, go to the Volunteer Intake Interview Scheduler or contact Volunteer & Internship Programs Manager Sarah Delepine, sarah.delepine@multco.us, 971-990-8135.
Onboarding
After your Intake Interview, if you are approved to move forward, you will be sent our DCJ Volunteer Onboarding Package and volunteer application. This package may vary depending on your assignment.

How to Become a DCJ Intern
The Department of Community Justice offers a variety of unpaid, project based internships throughout the year. Our internships are designed to help you develop employable skills in the field of community justice, while making a meaningful impact in the Multnomah County community. All internships are unpaid and open to applicants ages 18 and older, regardless of educational background.
At this time, we are not accepting clinical internship candidates and are unable to place practicum students in direct service roles.
