Construction begins for N.E. 223rd Avenue Safe Routes to School Project

This month crews will begin construction work on N.E. 223rd Ave. between Main Street and N.E. Halsey Street. During daytime hours, expect single lane closures and minor delays while traveling through the area. Construction continues through fall 2026.

This work is part of the N.E. 223rd Avenue Safe Routes to School Project, which aims to create a safer route for all users traveling to Fairview Elementary School.

Work includes:

  • Installing new sidewalks on the west side of the roadway
  • Adding bike lanes
  • Adding new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant ramps and water quality facilities
  • Adding new lighting
  • Repaving the roadway
  • Improving striping and signage

The estimated $2.6 million project is funded through a Safe Routes to School grant and Multnomah County Transportation funds.
